Mean Girls Book Tag

Mean Girls Book Tag

I was tagged in this almost a year ago by the lovely Kacie at A Bumble in Books (see her post here), and if you haven’t checked out her blog, I suggest you do so. I’m so sorry that I haven’t done this yet, but I’m doing it now. I’m also currently watching the movie to get myself in the mood for it, and let’s be honest here. Mean Girls is fantastic and hilarious.

{Story time: my roommate literally came running when she heard the movie playing through my door. “Are you watching Mean Girls?!”}

On to the tag!

“It’s pronounced like ‘Cady.’” – Which fictional characters’ names did you get completely wrong?

Basically everyone from And I Darken by Kiersten White. Ladislav Dragwlya, Mehmed. It’s not that I necessarily got their names wrong, but I don’t know how to pronounce their names in general. When I first read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I had no idea how to pronounce Carlisle. I vividly remember debating about the pronunciation with my friend in middle school. Review: Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell

Unhooked

Were I you… I’d not put my trust in stories. They tend to pass off lies as the truth and hide the truth in their lies.

Everybody who knows me or reads this blog knows that I have a passion for Peter Pan. (And if you don’t, welcome to the blog, my friend.) Anyway, this is a grand retelling of Peter Pan, and I ate it up greedily. I was completely sucked into the world, and I was not released until I finished the final page. It definitely satisfied my craving for some magic in Neverland.

So, a synopsis before we get into the meat of my review: Unhooked follows a girl by the name of Gwen. All her life, Gwen has been moved over and over again by her mother who believes that monsters are chasing after them. Gwen dismisses her mother’s worries, and after another move to a new location, Gwen and her best friend are kidnapped away to Neverland by those said monsters. From there, she struggles to hold on to her memories as Neverland calls her to forget, but what she wants is to find a way home. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite First Sentences

Posted on Updated on

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme created be gingerreadslainey on YouTube, but it is now managed by Thoughts on Tomes. The Goodreads group page can be found here.

Okay, can I just first say that I absolutely love this topic? The first sentence of a book is so important. It is your first exposure to the author’s writing in a novel, the characters, and the setting. I want it to pack a punch and peak my interest to make me want to keep reading—not that I’ve ever wanted to put down a book after reading the first line, but you know what I mean. While I was picking out these books, I actually went through and read the first sentence of every single book that I own that I have read, so this is actually completely accurate. I don’t think I have mentioned most of these books on my blog before, but incidentally, all of these books got a high rating from me. So, are you ready?

Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield

The night before Amelia Anne Richardson bled her life away on a parched dirt road outside of town, I bled out my dignity in the back of a pickup truck under a starpricked sky. Read the rest of this entry »

Olympics

In the spirit of the phenomenal athletes working their hardest in Brazil, I thought I would do The Olympics Book Tag! I absolutely adore the Olympics, both the summer and the winter games. Obviously, the summer games are currently going on for the next week or so, and I encourage you all to at least watch one of the events because personally, I just find it all so impressive.

Jordyn at jordzthebibliophile created this tag, and you can find the original here. I wasn’t tagged, but I’m not going to let that stop me. So, let’s get to it! Read the rest of this entry »

July 2016 Book Haul

Posted on Updated on

I didn’t get too carried away this month, but I’m very excited about my selection. Now, this may be my last book haul for a while because I have a huge stack of books to get through, and to be honest, I’m starting to get intimidated by my looming TBR (to-be-read) pile.

Here we go!

Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell

Unhooked

This one is another Peter Pan retelling, so I obviously had to get my hands on it. It follows a girl named Gwen, who has been told all her life by her crazy mother about a magical place, but perhaps, her mother isn’t so crazy after all. When Gwen and her friend are kidnapped away to Neverland, she tries to hang on to her memories, but she has to choose who to trust. The pirate or the fairytale hero? Read the rest of this entry »

June 2016 Book Haul

Posted on Updated on

More accurately, this is a cumulative haul for the past several months. I am very excited about these books. So much so that I’m having a hard time deciding what to read next, but that seems to always be an issue with book lovers.

Here we go!

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Me Before You

Right now, this book is extraordinarily popular. It was released as a movie in early June, and if I want to see it in theaters, I need to finish this book soon. I’m actually currently reading this one. For the most part, I went into this one blind. I don’t know a whole lot about it except it is about a woman caring for a disabled man, and then, romance happens? I’m not sure; we’ll see. Read the rest of this entry »
